Benefits Of Manuka Honey For Skin

Manuka Honey UMF25+

Manuka Honey is probably the best Natural Facial Cleanser I have ever used. There’s no doubt that honey is an excellent cleanser but Manuka Honey is even better.

So what exactly is Manuka Honey and How does it help our skin?

What Is Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is taken, manufactured and produced from bees that consistently feed on the Manuka bush. This particular bush is more commonly known as a variation of the tea tree plant and is found in Australia and New Zealand.

While Manuka honey is rather unknown in some ways, a number of healthcare and skin benefits have already been proven. Let’s go over just a few of these benefits so that you can have an idea of just how great of an impact Manuka honey can have on your overall health.

Benefits Of Manuka Honey For Skin

Manuka honey has specific properties that contain antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. These benefits can be used to fight infection, speed the healing process and help skin fight off any ill effects caused through excessive bacteria.

The honey can also speed up the healing process for fresh wounds. It creates moisture that allows new skin to grow much quicker than it would on its own. On top of this, Manuka honey prevents infection as it destroys bacteria and can repair previously damaged skin.

When applied to parts of the body that may be affected by fungal disease, such as jock itch and athlete’s foot, Manuka honey uses its anti-fungal properties to cure you and relieve pain. The pain relief is provided from the anti-inflammatory effects the honey supplies.

Possibly the greatest aspect is that Manuka honey offers all these benefits in an all natural and organic way unlike many other treatments on the market. While some treatments are simply examples over overmedication, this honey has no known or proven side effects in any way.

What is UMF or Unique Manuka Factor?

Before you go running off to a retailer to purchase Manuka honey, there is something very important that you need to be aware of. Not all honey is considered to be “active”. In order to be designated as “active”, Manuka honey must contain an antimicrobial property that is not found in any other types of honey.

This form of measurement is labeled as the Unique Manuka Factor, or UMF. The honey must pass some stringent laboratory testing to be labeled as “active”. Therefore, before making any purchase of Manuka honey, you should do your research, understand what UMF is and make sure that the product you are investing in is worth what you are paying. So make sure you are using Manuka Honey which has UMF 15+ (at least)

I am currently using the one with UMF 25+ which I bought on ebay(it came directly from New Zealand) and its $35 for a 250gm jar and trust me it lasts really long.

All I do is take some honey, spread it on my face, gently massage in a circular motion for about a minute and rinse off. It makes my skin clean, soft and glowing. It is good for all types of skin, specially beneficial for acne and aging skin, it is often known as anti-aging miracle. You can also use Manuka Honey in your facial masks and exfoliators to reap its wonderful benefits.

I’ve always wanted to try Manuka Honey, but I’m not sure where I could find it. There’s not many organic places near where I live. Any recommendations dear?

  2. Leo says:

Hi Dyna, You can buy it from ebay. But make sure you buy it from a reputed ebay seller with good number of feedback. Ebay sellers usually ship worldwide so it should not be a problem.

  3. It is refreshing to see someone mention about the importance of the UMF® mark when looking for manuka honey. This is the industry standard that means the honey has been properly tested AND audited for its antibacterial level.

I just wanted to add something extra about its use for wounds. This is the area where actually most of the research and even clinical trials of manuka honey’s use and benefits have been. However for wound use (certainly bigger wounds anyway) people should be looking for a medical grade UMF manuka honey. This has had a higher level of filtration and been sterilised.

In the USA I know there are some products under the Medihoney brand that have had FDA marketing approval. An example of what is available in Europe is the ManukaCare 18+, (eg here):

For a facial use then from the jars is fine. + its great for digestive problems too.

If I didn’t get great results with yellow raw honey, do you think this honey will be any different?

  5. Leon says:

Hi Jeanna, Manuka Honey with higher UMF is definitely better than usual honey. Give it a try, you will love it.

  6. jeanna says:

hey, i tried the manuka honey 20+ as a face wash and wow, it’s nice. I’m not sure if it’s all from the honey or astaxanthin i’m taking.
    :)

  7. Leon says:

Glad to hear that Jeanna:) It could be a combination of both.

  8. C says:

Try checking Fred Meyers. They now have a natural skin care section. But your best bet is to check at a natural food store. Try looking online for a list of natural food stores listed by states.

  10. Cathleen says:

Can you recommend a specific seller on Ebay that you purchased your honey from?

  11. Leon says:

The seller who was selling on ebay doesn’t sell on ebay anymore, I dunno what happened but I had his email address so I emailed him and he gave me his shop link- http://www.shopnewzealand.co.nz/en/c/Honey_Other_Bee_Products/Manuka_Honey

I am SO grateful I found this miraculous honey!
I have suffered from adult acne from moderate to severe for several years and since I’ve been using Active Manuka Honey as an hour long facial a couple times a week it litterally has removed some scarring, wrinkles and cures most of any leftover acne. It literaly made me look younger too.
I’ve tryed everything you can think of from glycolic acid peels to clays… This IS the Stuff! <3

  16. Leon says:

Hi Ana, Its better you use Organic Virgin Coconut Oil to treat her Eczema, just massage her with OVCO. Hope it helps her:)

  17. Leon says:

It works wonders on Eczema but don’t use honey on children below 1 year.
