How To Lighten Your Hair Naturally?

Do you wish to lighten your hair naturally at home using some safe ingredients that are found right in your kitchen? Then continue reading this post.

Pregnancy changes so many things in a woman, mentally, physically and emotionally. One of the changes that shocked me was my hair color. I had a very light golden hair color as a child but it turned into light brown as I grew up. It was shocking to see my hair color change from light brown to Jet Black in a matter of a few weeks after giving bith to my son. I had heard about hair texture changing, massive hair loss but color change was absolutely unexpected!

I tried Logona’s hair color which is henna based but it did nothing to change my hair color, not even a shade. I have used Henna before and it used to work so well because I had lighter hair color.

So I decided to try this recipe to lighten my hair and thankfully my hair is back to Light Brown now after just a few applications :) If your hair is naturally blonde it will add golden highlights and lighten even more so if you just want those highlights make sure you don’t keep it on for more than an hour.

For this Hair Lightening Recipe you will need:

2 Tablespoon Raw Honey

1 Tablespoon Cinnamon Powder

Juice of 3 Lemons

2 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive oil (it works as a moisturizer and doesn’t let your hair become dry because lemon tends to make your hair dry)

Brewed Chamomile Tea to use as a final rinse

1/3 Cup Dried Chamomile or 5-6 Sachets of Chamomile Tea (make sure its a pure Chamomile tea and doesn’t contain any other herbs). Boil 2 cups of water and add Chamomile, let it boil for 5 min and let it cool. Use as a final rinse.

Mix all the ingredients together and apply it to your hair. If you hair is very long you will have to increase the amount of ingredients accordingly. Rinse your hair with shampoo after 2 hours. If you don’t want it to lighten too much 1 hour should be fine. As a final rinse mix the brewed Chamomile Tea and 3 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar with a mug of cold water. It will add shine and Golden highlights to your hair.

You can also mix these ingredients with your conditioner and apply and rinse off after 1 or 2 hours depending on the lightening effect you desire.

Do this twice a week until you achieve your desired result and as a maintenance you can use it once a week. You can just use Lemon, Honey and Oil as a booster. (You can skip Cinnamon or use it once a month if you want).

Happy Hair Lightening :)

Note: Please do a patch test before trying this recipe because you might be allergic to cinnamon. When applying it to your hair make sure it doesn’t touch your scalp because it might sting or burn.

  1. Will definitely try it this week. I really need to get some golden highlights. Thanks so much!

  2. Love this recipe! I’ve used lemon juice to lighten my hair but never added cinnamon or chamomile tea….can you tell me how long this lasts?

  3. @Annette:
It lasts 3-4 weeks so its better if you could use the lemon and honey mask once a week to make it last longer :)
