Cracked lips and Dry Skin are the 2 most common issues we all face during the Winter. So if you are looking for a perfect lip balm recipe to deal with Winter dryness you can try this recipe.

Making your own Lip Balm is fun and easy. You can experiment with different carrier  oils, essential oils and natural butters.

Let’s make our own moisturizing lip balm.

For this recipe you will need-

1 tablespoon Shea Butter (you can use Mango Butter or Cocoa Butter too)

1 teaspoon Beeswax

1/2 tablespoon  Eztra Virgin Coconut Oil

1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 Vitamin E Gel Caplet

3 drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil

Melt all the ingredients in a double boiler(except the Vitamin E Gel Caplet and Geranium Essential Oil). Let it melt completely, once it melts let it cool for about 5 min. Pierce and squeeze the Vitamin E Gel Content into the container and add 3 drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil at the end.  Stir well and pour it into the Empty Lip Balm Tubes or Tins. Once it hardens its ready to be used.

This Lip Balm is very Hydrating and smells lovely.

    Hi Leon,

What a very lovely natural recipe. I have all the ingredients required to make it, but I don’t have a double boiler…what can you use instead? Thanks!

    Hi Robin,

You can take one small pan with a sturdy handle and one big pan and use them as double boiler if you don’t have one. Just fill the bigger pan with water, boil it and place the butter and oil in the small pan and place it on the boiled water until they melt. Hope it helps:)

This is a great recipe, Leon. Unlike popular chapstick-style lip balms, your homemade version uses nourishing natural moisturizers and emollients that will truly hydrate, soften, and heal dry cracked lips. What most people don’t know is that the petrolatum derivatives and other harsh chemicals in synthetic lip balms can actually make your lips drier and more irritated than they were to begin with (see the link below for a more detailed explanation). Natural lip balms are the perfect way to break the vicious cycle that can turn you into a “chapstick junkie.”

You can do a “bain-marie”. Mix all the ingredients in a metal boil that will be set on top of saucepan will boiling water. Don’t let the bottom of your bowl touch the water and be careful to continue stirring your ingredients with a wooden spoon or spatula. This will keep your ingredients from burning.
[Just like when you make dessert recipes that ask for melted chocolate! :) ]

    Hope that helped!
